Term: 2020-2021Marissa GuijarroSchool Counselor Suffern High School The PositionThis role in the governance structure involves leadership at both the state and national levels. The President assumes leadership for the state association and articulates the needs of the state association to the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), our parent organization. In addition to the responsibilities listed below, the President is a member of the State and Regional President Council, a body composed of Presidents and Presidents-Elect for the twenty four State & Regional associations. The President’s Council meets three times annually: in July at NACAC’s Leadership Development Institute, in the fall at the National Conference, and in the spring during the National Legislative Forum. The President is a Delegate to the National Assembly and is responsible for serving as a liaison to NACAC, articulating information to the State and completing annual and interim reports to NACAC. The term of office for President is one year. A summary of the duties of President as described in the NYSACAC By-Laws is as follows:
The CommitmentService as President of NYSACAC is an honor and a great responsibility. The rewards of service to the Association are tremendous as the President meets members from across the State and represents NYSACAC at the national level, both at the Assembly and at other designated NACAC meetings. The President of the Association provides the vision and leadership necessary to meet the professional need of members throughout the state and carry the membership forward. The President is called upon as a spokesperson to the media and as a representative at the Legislative Forum, promoting the agenda for counseling professionals and speaking out for the needs of students.
